Horn

The “French” horn is actually a misnomer!  In the 1600s and 1700s, the horn was primarily used as an outdoor hunting instrument in France.  The rhythmic signals used for hunting soon became associated as someone playing in the “French style.”  The modern valved instrument as we know it, however, originated in Germany.  Because of this confusion, the International Horn Society established that the instrument’s name is simply the “horn.”
